Testimony from Abram
My name is Abram, I’m 32 years old, born and raised in Tucson, but I’ve spent most of my life in a border town. Life near the border has its own set of challenges—substance abuse was a constant shadow, one that eventually led to prison. Along with addiction, one of the biggest challenges I faced was homelessness as a young adult. While moving between Tucson and Nogales, I often didn’t know where I would sleep or when I would eat. Those years of uncertainty felt like an endless cycle I couldn’t break free from. After my release from prison, I didn’t know where to turn. That’s when I found Crossroads. They didn’t just offer me a bed and a meal—they gave me a home. They provided food, clothing, and shelter, but more than that, they helped me build a foundation for a new life. They guided me through creating a resume and helped me take steps toward finding work. One of the greatest challenges I faced while being here was overcoming my addiction. Crossroads referred me to a partner company, American Rehab Campus, where I was able to go to rehab and complete the program. Throughout my time there, Crossroads Mission was my constant support. The staff even wrote me a heartfelt letter, motivating me and reminding me that I always had a home at Crossroads. That letter gave me the strength to keep going on my hardest days.I’m proud to say that I have been sober for three months now. Crossroads isn’t just a shelter; it’s a family. The warmth here, the way everyone cares so deeply for each other, makes it feel like home. I try to take care of this place because it’s taken care of me in ways I can never fully express. I’m incredibly grateful for having a safe place to stay, to rest, and to get the help I need to rebuild my life. Every day, I’m guided to do my best, and I strive to give back to the place that’s given me so much.
